Cheorwon

Cheorwon, South Korea

Located at the center of the Korean peninsula, Cheorwon used to be the capital of Taebong Kingdom with the great spirit of Goguryeo and the breath of history.
Cheorwon is the only divided area in the world, where peace and war coexist with a well-preserved DMZ, a scar of the Korean War, and war-related historic sites.

Cheorwon Peace Observatory

Located in Junggang-ri, Dongsong-eup, Cheorwon Peace observatory with three stories and a basement, opened in November 2007. The first floor is an exhibition hall and the second floor is an observatory, allowing tourists to observe the ecosystem, fortress of Gung-Ye Castle town, Pyeonggang tableland, and Seonjeon town of North Korea in the DMZ. There's also a miniature model produced by state-of-the-art technology and an ultra-precision telescope system, so that tourists can witness and listen to the reality of national division. And, for the convenience of tourists, the observatory provides lounges, and a monorail car (Cheorwon Peace Monorail) which is the latest passenger transportation system, so visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery around the observatory.

Woljeong-Ri Station

This station was a short resting station for an iron train which travelled from Seoul to Wonsan. It is now the northeast station of the Gyeongwon railroad line close to the boundary line in the demilitarized zone. This station is the most famous tourist destination of Choerwon Security Sightseeing. On the other side of this station, there a signboard written 'Train Wants to Run' and the wreckage of a train ruined by bombing during the Korean War; these items remind us of the pain of the national division.

Labor Party Headquarters

This building was constructed to reinforce the Communist government and control of residents by North Korea. Before the Korean War, this place was notorious as the headquarters of the North Korean Labor Party.
